I love these quotes

“only way the victim’s foot could have been where the video indicates it to be was by the victim placing it in that location.”

And that is what a DA decided in not pursuing charges against Britney Spears.  Sheer genius.

Oh wait, I got another off of a news service today too (it is a rich day for these).

Former ’80s heartthrob Corey Haim says kissing Victoria Beckham felt like “a girl gnawing on your lip.”

And somehow this was news worthy

British Teen Suffers Painful Shark Attack in His Bedroom

One unlucky British teen suffered a painful shark attack without ever going near the water. In fact, he was bitten in the face by one of the sharp-fanged animals in his own bedroom, Metro.co.uk reported.

The “attack” happened at 14-year-old Sam Hawthorne’s home in Dudley, England.

Hawthorne was sleepwalking when the teeth of a dead souvenir shark from a family vacation, that hangs on the wall of his nautical-themed bedroom, became embedded in his face.

The teeth left blood pouring from the teen’s face, his mother, Susan, told Metro.co.uk.

“It was like something out of a horror film,” she said. “The shark must have been embedded in Sam’s cheek for about 15 minutes and he was in a lot of pain.”

In the end, Hawthorne came away with only a small scar. “It was the most frightening experience of my life,” he told Metro.co.uk.

Now let me say, I have children.  With children, some damn strange accidents can and will happen.  Freak accidents where a kid trips over thin air, falls and breaks his arm.  Or just this weekend when my 9 year old daughter was having a first sewing lesson with the sewing machine and the needle went through her finger until the grandmother in charge of the lesson reversed the needle back out.  There was a lot of blood and a lot of pain (at least according to my daughter).

But tell me, what kind of person decided this was news worthy?  The parents who thought it was interesting that the kid sleepwalked into something hanging on the wall?  Like that has never happened before to any other kid in the world?  I bet I know some mothers who can related a lot better story of some weird thing their kids (or they did as a kid) has done.

I hate the media.

Court rules paper money unfair to blind

Federal appeals court says Treasury Department is violating the law by keeping all money the same size and feel.

Last Updated: May 20, 2008: 11:19 AM EDT

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. discriminates against blind people by printing paper money that makes it impossible for them to distinguish the bills’ value, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.

The ruling upholds a decision by a lower court in 2006. It could force the Treasury Department to redesign its money. Suggested changes have ranged from making bills different sizes to printing them with raised markings.

The United States acknowledges that the design hinders blind people but it argued they had adapted –some relied on store clerks for help, some used credit cards and others folded certain corners to help distinguish the bills.

But the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled 2-1 that such adaptations were insufficient. The government might as well argue that, since handicapped people can crawl on all fours or ask for help from strangers, there’s no need to make buildings wheelchair accessible, the court said.

I’m not blind and don’t have anyone in my family affected by this but still this seems so obvious and so fair.
